ACA and CKC are basically the same things but different people making money off of them. AKC doesn't accept ACA as a legitmate registry. You can never register a dog with full benefits with AKC unless the sire and dam are of recognized registeries. In the US the only recognized registry is the AKC itself but if you lived in another country and had a dog registered with a recognized registery such as Canadian Kennel Club you could register your dog with the AKC using the papers from the Canadian Kennel Club. ACA doesn't have the grandparents on the paper because most likely they don't have a clue who it is and they don't care. These "registeries" you and I could do with a website. Set up the website take in money send a piece of paper...that's it...they hold no weight as far as if your pup is TRULY purebred. The reason backyard breeders use these "registeries" is they can say these are "registered" pups and get more money for them, they don't elaborate that that "registery" means NOTHING as far as the pureness of the puppy. I would much prefer people would sell these pups WITHOUT any papers but then they wouldn't get as high a price.
When one buys a dog and pays a hefty sum because it has "papers" research just what does those papers mean? Do they GUARANTEE your dog is purebred? Do they keep and offer pedigrees on every single registered dog going back at least 3 to 6 generations? If a registery means nothing but someone (hiding behind a registery sounding name) who takes information and sends out a form that's not a legitimate registery for purebreds.
If you you would like to compete in dog sports such as agility, obedience, field trials, etc you can get a ILP (Indefinite Listing Privelidge) with letter from a vet that the dog is spayed or neutered and enclosing pictures. You can never get this registration based on looks alone and you can't register puppies with this type of registration.
For the record an AKC puppy registeration doesn't have the grandparents names listed on it either but it does have the parents with the parents ID numbers and they will research and send you a pedigree for as far back as many generations as you'd like..it does cost...if you buy a AKC puppy and you think you didn't get a purebred you can have a DNA tes t( but the parents first must be DNA'D and most are not because it is not a requirement) and if it is found the pup isn't of the parents stated (and sometimes they are purebred but not of the parents listed) they get in BIG trouble. Have to pay big fines and every puppy they ever registered can have their registrations pulled. I have seen this happen so it pays when registering with AKC for people to be honest....
I know of breeders that register a litter, when there is NO litter even born...that is to get extra registration forms and this is done often because these backyard breeders have found a way to cheat the system..and yes, it goes on a LOT...seems to me that people are obsessed with PAPERS which is just plain nuts. Papers mean nothing unless you are going in the show ring, or for breeding.....pet owners pay for a piece of paper that may NOT even be ligit and it sits in a drawer. Learning the background of the puppy's parents is MORE crucial then any paper and so is health...... and HEALTH is what breeding is all about... I breed for health along with temperament as my priorities...I would never ever knowingly sell a puppy with any health issues...I have been breeding for 15 years, and I know what I am doing....not trying to toot my own horn here, but I can back up my ethics and my high standards with many happy customers. You do not stay in the breeding business if you falsify registration papers, breed unhealthy parents, or over breed like a puppy mill does.
Beware of those pretty websites where they have like 20-60 doodles for sale...these ARE puppy mills, dogs stuck in cages with NO human contact.....
Do you know what DNA means? Of course you do, and in pets it is the same as with us as humans...it is a cheek swab and can prove parentage...however....NOT ONE REGISTRY requires that you do it....if it was required, it would put the BAD breeders OUT of business and the registeries would loose a TON of money...so they don't push it...I believe that they SHOULD require it done on all breeding males and females...that way any person buying a puppy can PROVE the parentage....plus it would cut down our bad breeders which would also cut down in the overpopulation of dogs and cats as well.
A note about testing....I see so many people have such high prices because they test their dogs...but did you know those tests are only conclusive for that dog, at that moment, and can become totally void down the road???? TRUE.........it's a money maker people...don't fall for it.... talk to your breeder.....pay a reasonable price, ask questions, and don't get taken by too many guarantees that is not reasonable, these are living little creatures and trust that some of these breeders are total SCAM ARTISTS.....it is a selling ploy to get your hard earned $$$$$$$ ....paying $1500 to $2000 for these great doodles is way too much for the average family.....it's just not right....
Doodles cannot be AKC registered because it is a new breed and not a purebred at this point.
Best of luck in finding the puppy of your dreams and an honest loving breeder, use the telephone and talk to the breeder you are considering...he/she should answer every question you have no matter what.......... and in reality papers don't mean a hill of beans when it comes to the love of our pets.
